Love Systems and Nick Savoy
Love Systems is one of the best-known dating coaching companies from the pickup era, and Nick Savoy is the person most associated with running it. Its pitch was practical: a structured program for meeting women in everyday places, taught at live bootcamps and in a reference manual called Magic Bullets.
From Mystery Method Corp to Love Systems
Wikipedia's article on the seduction community refers to "Mystery Method Corp (now Love Systems)." In other words, the company that started around the Mystery Method was later renamed Love Systems. If you want the origin story, Mystery and the Mystery Method covers the model it started from.
Savoy is President and Program Leader of Love Systems, according to his publisher's author page at Hachette Book Group. The page says he has worked as a professional dating coach since 2004 and lists television appearances that include Dr. Phil, ABC Nightline, and Tyra Banks.
What the company sold
A 2008 profile in The Globe and Mail (October 9, 2008) gives a snapshot of the business at the time:
- Love Systems was based in Los Angeles and reported working with more than 10,000 clients.
- It ran boot camps where instructors, many of them former students, demonstrated approaches on women in bars and restaurants, then coached students through their own.
- It sold a reference manual, Magic Bullets, plus fashion consultations and a three-DVD set on relationship management.
The article describes the coaching as based on social psychology. Savoy told the paper: "We personalize it for you. We model the behaviours that you're supposed to have."
The Globe and Mail also reported a change in what clients asked for. By 2008, Savoy said, the main question was how to make a relationship work, not just how to meet someone. The wider move in that direction is covered in from pickup lines to authenticity.
Magic Bullets and daytime approaches
Love Systems announced the Magic Bullets handbook in a press release dated June 18, 2011. Per the release, the book covers:
- Meeting and attracting women in daytime places such as coffee shops, supermarkets, shopping malls, and streets, rather than in clubs.
- The whole process, from meeting a woman through what the release calls "closing the deal."
- Body language and emotional communication.
- Dialogue suited to specific situations and locations.
The daytime focus is the part with the longest shelf life. Approaching in a supermarket works differently from approaching in a bar: she's busy, there's no music to compete with, and you've got a short window. Day game and approaching in coffee shops, gyms, and bookstores both go through how that plays out.
Savoy also wrote a book for women, It's Your Move: How to Play the Game and Win the Man You Want (Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of Hachette, February 5, 2013). Hachette describes it as drawing on what he teaches at his bootcamps.
What to take from Savoy
Here's how to use the daytime focus of Magic Bullets without buying anything. The example lines are ours, not Savoy's.
- Pick one everyday venue this week. A coffee shop, a supermarket, or a bookstore. Go at a quiet time, like a weekday at 11 a.m.
- Match the situation to the opener. Say something about what's in front of you. At a supermarket: "Excuse me, you look like you know your way around here. What's worth buying?" At a coffee shop: "That looks good. What did you get?"
- Have a plan for the first minute. Ask one open question, then follow what she says. Keep the conversation going after "hi" shows how.
- Go for the next step within 5 to 10 minutes. If it's going well, suggest coffee or ask for her number. How to ask for a number has the wording.
- Log at least three approaches per outing. Mark each as Success, Rejected, or Pass in Flow. Only successes and rejections count as approaches.
- Review after. Write two lines on what happened. Notice which venue gave you the most real conversations.
Savoy's clients drifted toward relationship questions, so keep that end goal in mind too. If she says she's busy or not interested, say "no problem, have a good one" and leave.
